PLANS AND PROCESS

The Lyons Master Plan was lodged with the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Environment (DIPE) on July 28, 2005.

The Master Plan has been developed following a detailed investigation of background reports, consideration of the site history and physical characteristics, surrounding land uses and a comprehensive, pre-lodgement community and stakeholder consultation process. Feedback received during the pre-lodgement consultation process enabled a number of amendments to be made to the draft plan prior to lodgement.

The Master Plan for Lyons aims to achieve a balanced, sustainable living environment that provides high standards of amenity and lifestyle opportunity.

Key features of the Master Plan include:

  • A series of attractive neighbourhoods
  • A range of housing types, with integrated medium density housing sites addressing parks and close to public transport
  • Climate sensitive orientation and lot shape
  • A feature Central Park providing an anchor for the community, social and cultural pursuits, recreational opportunities, as well as stormwater management and conservation of beneficial vegetation
  • Public transport servicing the neighbourhoods as the first residents move in as well as an integrated pedestrian and cycle network
  • Conservation of beneficial vegetation and site features within the open space network.

The Master Plan includes approximately 700 dwellings to be phased over a 5 year period. About 300 of these dwellings will be for Defence housing, with the remainder available for private purchase.
