Googong New Town will be home to an estimated 16,000 people 20km from Canberra and will evolve over a 25 year period. Client, CIC Australia’s vision for the new township is that it showcases the best in design and sustainability across social, cultural, environmental and economic areas.
Elton Consulting has been involved from the start of the project, providing a range of services from community consultation and social planning to housing analysis and community infrastructure provision. Most recently, Elton Consulting prepared the planning instruments that will guide the site’s future.
Elton Consulting provided the following services for the project:
- Statutory and strategic planning relating to the rezoning of the land, preparation of a Development Control Plan and Local Environmental Plan on behalf of Council, development applications for subdivision and co-ordination of voluntary planning agreements which set out development contributions
- Community and social planning to support and inform the final master plan and development control plan for Googong, development contributions, neighbourhood and town centre design
- Delivery of a Housing Affordability Strategy that set out initiatives and opportunities for the master plan site
- Preparation and implementation of a community consultation and stakeholder engagement strategy
- Strategic communications advice and risk assessment
- Development of an employment strategy for the site to stimulate business formation and growth in the new community.
