Healthy Urban Development Checklist
This project involved developing a Healthy Urban Development Checklist for Sydney South West Area Health Service and NSW Health.
The checklist will be used by staff members of NSW Health and Area Health Services to guide and inform their feedback and advice to local government and developers about urban development (including urban renewal and urban regeneration) policies and plans in NSW.
The checklist encourages tailored, locally relevant and project specific recommendations; it does not operate as a generic “tick a box” system. The application of this checklist will help ensure that the design and development of residential, commercial and employment areas can support the health and wellbeing of the people who will live, work and play there.
Looking into the future, it is envisaged that use of the checklist will help build partnerships between health professionals and planners, for the benefit of these professions and communities.
